Papers

Long-form work built from article series.

Papers are the expanded, structured form of my article arcs: edited, reorganised, and enriched with introductions, conclusions, diagrams, and sometimes additional sections. They represent the stable layer of the thinking — the versions meant to be used as reference in studios, schools, consulting and long-term research.

Articles that lead to these papers can be read on Medium. The papers listed here are either already compiled as PDFs or in the process of becoming so.

Main papers

These papers originate from article series but evolve into structured long-form documents — complete arguments with clear framing and practical use.

  • The Myth of Chaos: Why Structure Creates Freedom
Expanded from multiple articles on the tension between chaos and structure, reframing how creative teams think about autonomy and constraints.
  • The Hidden Ethics of Intention
A long-form exploration of the ethical stance embedded in design systems, and how intention shapes what players learn from our structures.
  • Where Is Authorship in Games?
A deeper reframing of authorship in a systemic medium, built from articles analysing the intersection of collaboration, tools and player agency.
  • Designing the Hero’s Journey in Video Games as Feedback Loops
The fully developed version of the loop-based mythic structure exploration, bridging narrative design, systems thinking and emotional pacing.

As these papers mature, they are released as standalone PDFs (often via Gumroad) and may later become part of the book volumes listed in the Books section.

Papers in development

Some arcs are still evolving through articles or internal documents. These will eventually become structured papers when the concept is stable enough.

  • Valuing Creativity — The EVI & DVI Framework
Long-form treatment of how we evaluate expected and delivered value in creative work, refocusing decision-making around intention and meaning.
  • Intentional Authorship & AI-assisted Creation
Developing a new model of authorship when tools and AI systems participate in the creative pipeline, raising questions of responsibility, ownership and structure.
  • Funding Models for Creative Risk
Explorations of new financing structures for independent and experimental games, rooted in risk distribution and long-term value rather than traditional pipelines.
  • The Feelou Architecture – Missions, Validation & Production Cognition
A conceptual whitepaper describing how the Feelou workflow encodes production logic derived from the frameworks and papers above.

These pieces will move to the “main papers” section once they are edited into complete, self-contained texts with their own narrative arc and PDF editions.
